~~Painting "Deliverance" was a journey in itself.
I wasn't sure where it was going when I started it, I just had this visual of Cernunnos carrying a weakened figure through the moonlight.
I realized as I was creating it, and especially once it was finished, what the story was and why I had the urge to create it.
As a young woman, I had a great despise for organized religion, (and honestly, I still do), but I didn't know at that time, that having faith was still a choice.
It wasn't until I discovered the book "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler, that I realized that much of what I always believed and experienced since childhood, was not just a wild imagination, but was a valid faith system. I was not alone, crazy or doomed... the sense of familiarity and connection was something like coming home. Adler actually talks specifically about this feeling in her book.
...I had discovered my ancestor's faith in Nature and the power of the unseen world on this planet.
This painting is a reflection of the relief and surrender I felt when I found my spiritual path... ~~
